Job Title: Kitchen Assistant
(20 hours per week)

Our facility in College Park comprises a teaching kitchen and culinary garden, nestled into a residential neighborhood in one of Orlando’s most vibrant communities.
Job Description:
The Kitchen Assistant plays a critical role in the daily execution of The Kitchen House programs by preparing the space, organizing ingredients and materials, and ensuring a smooth, clean, and welcoming environment for all classes and events. This role is responsible for setting up and breaking down all programming, supporting educators and program staff, and maintaining high standards of organization, cleanliness, and food safety. The Kitchen Assistant is typically the first to arrive and the last to leave, ensuring that each program is fully prepared and that the space is properly cleaned, sanitized, and reset for future use. This is a part-time, year-round non-exempt position. The Kitchen Assistant works closely with The Kitchen House program staff, educators, and volunteers, reporting to the Program Manager and Program Director. This role requires the ability to handle physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and working both indoors and outdoors year-round.
Job Responsibilities & Duties include, but are not limited to:
Prepare and set up all Kitchen House classes and programs, including reviewing recipes, building shopping lists, and organizing ingredients and equipment
Arrive first to open the space and complete full kitchen, classroom, and garden setup; post daily schedules and recipes
Support educators, program staff, volunteers, and participants to ensure smooth, engaging programs
Provide basic food prep and ensure proper food safety and sanitation practices are followed at all times
Manage inventory, including tracking, organizing, storing, and rotating ingredients and supplies
Train and support volunteers as needed and provide feedback to program leadership
Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout programs, including full cleanup, sanitation, and reset after each class
Follow detailed opening and closing procedures to ensure the space is fully operational and secure
Qualifications & Skills:
Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with guests, youth, and volunteers
Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Experience working in kitchens, classrooms, or with volunteers preferred
Comfortable with food prep, kitchen equipment, and safe food handling practices
Team-oriented with a flexible, can-do attitude and willingness to step into various roles
Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets)
Ability to provide own laptop and cell phone
Physically able to lift, bend, stand for long periods, and work indoors/outdoors
Availability to work daytime, evenings and weekends as needed
Pay: Up to $18 per hour, based on experience.
