Gardening Foundations: Gardening 101

  • The Kitchen House 26 East King Street Orlando, FL, 32804 United States (map)

Gardening Foundations is growing Orlando’s community of home gardeners. Whether you want to beautify your living space with ornamental flowers or do your grocery shopping in your own backyard, take part in this workshop to demystify the science and art of nurturing plants from seed to harvest.

Dig in and Grow

Grow your green thumb in our culinary garden—beginners welcome! At this hands-on workshop for families, we’ll cover the basics of site selection, sun mapping, soil types, seed starting, and more. You’ll go home ready to grow something delicious, no matter your space and resources.

Meet Your Garden Educator, Blake Herndon

Blake graduated from Le Cordon Bleu London in 2024 while working for a biodynamic market garden operated by Farmacy London. He learned the value of a home-cooked farm-fresh meal by shelling peas and shucking corn in North Florida with his grandparents, and has been recreating the comfort of their kitchen ever since. Blake’s mission is to root the Southern comfort food of his childhood in principles of nutrition, regenerative provenance, and well-being. He works closely with Everoak Farm’s Mike Garcia to plan the development of The Kitchen House’s culinary garden.
